The West Highlands Centre of Mission
The West Highlands Centre of Mission is based in Kinlochleven, a well-known staging post on the West Highland Way, and serves six village communities, covering 400 square miles with a permanent population of just under 4,000 people. Day to day numbers of people in the region are considerably multiplied by a year-round tourist economy, which is boosted by Lochaber’s reputation as the Outdoor Capital of the UK. Since Amanda Fairclough took up the post of Priest Evangelist and the local Scottish Episcopal Priest in Charge (of the six churches in the West Highland Region) in 2017, she has been leading the budding outreach of the nascent Centre of Mission, with growing success in engaging with schoolchildren, particularly via the Café Kinloch project and chaplaincy at Kinlochleven High School. Future plans are to strengthen the connections with children, young people and families throughout the region’s communities. It is planned that Amanda will be joined by a pioneer evangelist.
